On our first day out in London, we were driven in the
stylish European, Hans. I feel like I’m abusing him every time I close the door
– apparently car doors are much heavier at home than they are over here! I’ll
need to watch out for that because all of the cars over here are European.
There’s not a Toyota or Honda in sight, which given the location of England makes
sense I guess.
We made our way to Southbank and pushed through some crowds
(there were markets on) to the river and took some photos. Then we took photos
of each other taking photos. Photos are neat.
After that we went to the OXO Tower to meet up with some
friends for cocktails. Sam asked if the building had anything to do with stock
cubes and was told no – but a quick Wiki search tells me otherwise! It was
originally a power station, then a post office, then a cold store for OXO beef
stock cubes and now is a mixed use restaurant, artsy and apartment building.
More importantly – it has a great view and the cocktails were fancy and very
strong.
Wandering around Covent Garden we went to Kopapa for coffee
and saw Peter Gordon. (He’s a famous chef and according to his website
he’s ‘often called
Europe's father of fusion cuisine’) That was exciting for the first day out in London and even though we
didn’t chat to him it still feels great.
We meandered across to the Victoria Embankment Gardens and gazed
at some very pretty tulips.
And then had a drink at this giant upturned cow. I’m still
not quite sure what it was.
At the end of the day we made our way back to the car. It
was like I was a kid again because I slept (and probably dribbled everywhere) most
of the way back to Windsor.
